ABOUT THE STUDY
STUDY PURPOSE AND GOALS
The Arizona State University Study of Living Arrangements (ASU SoLAr) aims to understand how living arrangements affect lifestyles, needs, health, and technology use as people get older. The study also focuses on how living arrangements may influence changes in memory and thinking to help develop solutions to prevent Alzheimer’s disease and dementias.
WHO IS CONDUCTING THE STUDY?
This study is being conducted by researchers at Arizona State University’s Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation, in collaboration with the ASU Roybal Center for Older Adults Living Alone with Cognitive Decline. Edson College is a nationally recognized leader in advancing health through research, education, and innovation. The ASU Roybal Center focuses on developing and testing innovative interventions to support the health, independence, and quality of life of older adults experiencing cognitive decline, particularly those living alone.

STUDY DESIGN
SoLAr is a longitudinal observation convergent mixed-methods design, meaning we are observing participants over time without assigning them to specific treatments. The study will be ongoing as long as funding is available. Participants complete surveys each year to track changes in their living arrangements, lifestyle behaviors, health, and technology use. Participants can complete the surveys in the way that works best for them—on paper, by phone, or online.
COMPENSATION FOR THE INITIAL SURVEYS
Eligible participants will get a $65 gift card for completing the SoLAR Registry Survey. Participants can choose to get it as an Amazon gift card or a Greenphire ClinCard gift card—whichever they prefer.
Participants can also earn an extra $35 gift card if they wear the activity watch the right way and for the required time.
COMPENSATION FOR THE ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP SURVEYS
Each year participants take part in the study, they’ll earn a little more!
The amount participants get for completing the SoLAR Survey and for wearing the activity watch will each go up by $5 every year.
